Abstract:
The study of furniture and interiors form encompasses the three-dimensional nature of objects, bridging mass and space to convey physical characteristics. In design, form serves as a fundamental aspect, transforming 2D drawings into tangible 3D volumes. Understanding form involves utilizing elements like line and shape to construct intuitive structures. This course explores various form and material formation processes, elucidating the foundational definition through natural forms and construction principles. It covers form types based on qualities, purpose, perception, and applications, emphasizing techniques for visualizing and translating forms from perception to physical objects. Through examples, discussions, and demonstrations, students learn to develop simple forms representing aspirations, feelings, or moods, culminating in exercises to create mood boards from selected keywords, highlighting the importance of defining visual attributes prior to realization.
Course Objective
The primary objective of this course is to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles of form and its application in furniture and interior design. Through the study of natural forms, construction principles, and material formation processes, students will learn to transform two-dimensional concepts into tangible three-dimensional objects. The course aims to enhance students' ability to visualize and translate forms from perception to physical realization, fostering skills in creating designs that convey specific aspirations, feelings, or moods.
Course Outcomes
By the end of this course, students will be able to:
- Understand the Fundamentals of Form: Comprehend the basic principles and elements of form, including line, shape, mass, and space, and their significance in furniture and interior design.
- Translate 2D Drawings to 3D Volumes: Develop the ability to transform two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional forms, enhancing spatial awareness and design execution.
- Apply Construction Principles: Utilize natural forms and construction principles to create intuitive and structurally sound designs.
- Identify and Utilize Form Types: Recognize and differentiate between various form types based on qualities, purpose, perception, and applications in design projects.
- Visualize and Communicate Design Concepts: Effectively visualize and communicate design concepts through the use of mood boards, highlighting key visual attributes before actualizing designs.
- Create Emotionally Resonant Designs: Develop simple forms that represent specific aspirations, feelings, or moods, using appropriate techniques and materials.
- Conduct Critical Analysis and Discussions: Engage in discussions, critiques, and demonstrations to deepen understanding and refine design skills.
- Execute Practical Design Exercises: Complete practical exercises that integrate learned principles, culminating in the creation of mood boards and tangible design prototypes.
This course aims to equip students with the essential skills and knowledge to excel in the field of furniture and interior design, fostering creativity and technical proficiency.
